Friday 3rd July

Happy Friday! This term is going so fast – I do not want it to end. I have really missed teaching you this term as it feels such a long time since we last saw each other. I hope that you are all keeping safe and well.

Here is a cute chameleon to start your day:

Daily Activities:

  • Zumos – Rate your day and listen to the how to be happy for today. Not many of you have been doing this so I would like to see how many can today! It only takes 10 minutes.
  • SumDog – Spend at least 20 minutes completing training – either on maths, grammar or spelling
  • Reading – Read your own books for 20 minutes or log into Oxford Owl (www.oxfordowl.co.uk – username:hmchameleons password:hmchameleons)
  • Duolingo: Complete at least 10 minutes per day – download the app if you are able to or sign into the website.

Maths:

Starter – 10 minutes:

Main Task – 20 – 30 mins: Timetables

Remember that there are 60 minutes in an hour. Therefore you cannot just subtract the two numbers. I would recommend counting the minutes to the next whole hour and then the minutes from the whole hour to the time given.

e.g. Question 4b) How long does the 13:38 from Wakefield take to get to London?

So it starts at 13:38 (Wakefield) and arrives in London at 16:01.

13:38 – count up minutes to the next hour (60 minutes in an hour) = 22 minutes. (14:00)

14:00 – count hours through to the closest hour to arrival time = 2 hours (16:00)

16:00 – count the minutes until the minutes givenfor the arrival time = 1 minute (16:01)

So the train took 2 hours and 23 minutes.

English – Monster Planning:

Activity 1: Draw your monster

It will help for you to visualise what you are writing about Label the different features of your monster. Have you added anything to your description?

Activity 2: Planning

We will look back at the original model piece of writing about the swamp monster. Here we have boxed up the writing to match the planning paragraphs.

Create your own planning sheet in your books. You don’t have to have the same paragraphs as the example but you can change them. Feel free to adapt the plan to meet your ideas/paragraphs for your monster.

Final Task: Ask an adult to read through your plan – does it make sense?

PSHE: Coping with Changes

Read through the information and complete the tasks on the slides.

Have a great weekend Year 5 – stay safe and well!

Swamp monsters are mostly known to hide in the remote ‘Cazooma’ which is the darkest and most hideous swamps of them all.
It is said that the Cazooma is the only monster Swamp ever discover.
This dangerously hot Swamp is inhabited by the strongest and most fearsome creatures.

Ok done I hope you liked this one

  6. Okay Abdulrahman 🙂

For Task 2 you should choose a state in America. There are 50 to choose from. Alaska is quite an interesting place in turns of geography, or Nevada, which is a desert really.

Once you have chosen a place, use the first sheet to guide your research. So if I had chosen Alaska, I would google population number and write that down. Then I would research land use and write that down.

You do not need to write a lot for each point. Just the key information.

The second half of the task is to compare the state in America with England. How are the places the same physically (naturally) or how are they different (naturally). Then compare the human geography – do we speak the same language/same land use/same houses etc…..

  9. Write a list of changes that happen to a child your age – they can be little or big changes, from changing your hair to moving house or school.

You have to decide if these changes are either a sudden change (like school closing for Covid 19) a difficult change (like moving house), an exciting change (like going to secondary school or finishing school for the holidays) or a small change (like getting a new pair of trainers).

Now for some of these changes we can mentally prepare for so that they are not so difficult. We can create an action plan to help us. I think a good one would be moving to year 6 or secondary school. Complete the action plan to help you prepare for this change.

Unfortunately we can’t prepare for all changes but we can ask for help if we are struggling.
